Berwick Hills Dental Practice
Berwick Hills Dental Practice first opened its doors to patients in 1984. Helen Almond bought the practice in 1993. The practice has been expanded several times and now has seven surgeries, the last two opening in spring 2009.
The surgeries are all well equipped with modern equipment; we are fully computerised and use digital radiography.

Meet Our Staff:
Helen Almond BDS MFGDP (GDC No. 55844)
Helen was brought up in North Yorkshire; she graduated BDS from Manchester University in 1981, gaining a postgraduate qualification (MFGDP) in 1993. From January 2002 to December 2003 she undertook a certificate in restorative dentistry at the Eastman Institute in London; a course designed to enable her to work at a higher level in the area of restoring teeth. Helen also has a certificate in Teaching and Learning in Professional Practice from the University of Central Lancashire. She has an interest in preventative dentistry and works hard to improve oral health and reduce inequalities. Helen is the vice-chair of Tees Local Dental Committee. Helen is committed to postgraduate education, attending many courses throughout the year as part of her personal development.
Kate Harrison and Jacqueline Dean are educational supervisors in the Northern region Foundation Training Scheme and are involved in training new dentists. Both Kate and Jacqueline have a certificate in Teaching and Learning in Professional Practice from the University of Central Lancashire.
Ian Stone BDS (GDC No. 70597)
Ian graduated from Newcastle in 1995 and has worked at Berwick Hills Dental Practice since qualifying. He is a long standing and popular member of our team. A generalist, Ian enjoys all aspects of general dental practice and is a committed member of the team. He has two children and lives in his home town of Northallerton.
Kate Harrison BDS (GDC No. 74393)
Kate also qualified BDS with Honours from Newcastle in 1998 and has worked at Berwick Hills Dental Practice since then. She is now firmly established as a committed, popular and active member of the practice. Kate attended a year long restorative course in 2011/2012 in Leeds to further her skills in this area. Since then she has developed an interest in endodontics and is about to start a postgraduate course in Manchester to obtain new techniques in this discipline. Kate has been involved in training graduate dentists since 2010 and is increasingly involved in management issues within the practice particularly around training, appraisal and career development. Originally from Bury, she married a local dentist and settled in the North East. Kate also has two children.
Jacqueline Dean BDS (GDC No. 81832)
Jacqui has worked at Berwick Hills Dental Practice since gaining her BDS from Newcastle in 2003. Now well established, Jacqui is a popular dentist within the practice. Jacqui has an interest in working with nervous patients and is happy to help patients to gain confidence in accepting treatment. In 2013 Jacqui completed a course in teaching in healthcare practice and passed with a distinction. She in now involved in training graduate dentists. Jacqui is originally from Billingham, returning to the area on qualification, where she lives with her husband and two children.
Kate Jefferson (GDC No. 250805)
Kate qualified from Dundee with BDS Commendation in 2014 and is part of the Northern Deanery foundation training program. Kate is pleased to be returning to the North East as she is originally from Billingham. Whilst studying she was involved with the Teddy Bear Hospital and Toothy Tigers projects aimed at helping children to be more dentally aware and less anxious of the dentist and hopes to bring these skills with her to Berwick Hills. She is keen to gain further qualifications in the future possibly in the fields of sedation and oral surgery.
Svenya Mitchell BChD (GDC No. 72017)
Svenya graduated in 1996 from Leeds Dental Institute having also obtained the Restorative Prize. She has always has an interest in preventative dentistry and having worked in general dental practice for many years enjoys helping her patients maintain long term oral health. Svenya is originally from Richmond and now lives near Northallerton with her 3 children and 3 dogs.
Rebecca Heald (GDC No. 259280)
Rebecca qualified from Teesside University in 2015 with a BSc (Hons) in Dental Hygiene and Therapy. She is passionate about her role and enjoys motivating patients to achieve high levels of oral hygiene. Rebecca is a friendly outgoing person who is very eager to learn new developments within dentistry.
Joanne has worked at Berwick Hills Dental Practice since 1988. She first came to work as a dental nurse and became Practice Manager in 2005. Joanne especially enjoys the relationship she has built up with patients over the years. Joanne is friendly and approachable, a very popular member of the team, and is happy to deal with any queries. She is currently living in Saltburn with her husband and two young children.
